Autumn equals muffin season! Whenever someone asks what I most like to bake, I say muffins. Whether or not you feel the same, autumn truly is the perfect time to bake muffins. Their flavors vary from sweet and spicy, warm and chocolately, or fresh and fruity. For me, both autumn and muffins stir up feelings of warmth in my spirit, tastes of cinnamon on my tongue, and smells of home-baked goodness in my nose.
Come autumn, orange, yellow, and crimson leaves blanket the ground. Chilly breezes invite cloudy skies and light rains. Warm homes welcome families into the sitting or dining room, and a home is made to feel even warmer with delicious muffins baking in the oven. I testify to this after baking some yummy banana muffins for my family’s breakfast this morning. Invite your family to cozy up on the couch or around the table with you for a family devotional, a tasty muffin, and a cup of tea.
A naturally orange-colored, pumpkin chocolate chip muffin recipe for you is shared below that pairs perfectly with a mug of coffee or tea, a scoop of ice cream, a smear of frosting, or simply gobbled up plain. My mama opened a wonderful conversation about Matthew 7:24-27, which I have pasted below with a few discussion questions that she used for a family devotional.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
~Matthew 7:24-27
Why would a house built on sand fall? What happens to sand during a storm?
Why would a house built on rock stand? What happens to rock during a storm?
Who is the rock upon whom we shoud build our lives? Hint: 1 Samuel 2:2 says, ““There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.”
In order to be like a wise man who built his house on the rock, what do we have to do? Hint: Matthew 7:24
What things did Jesus tell us to do? Hint: Go to Matthew 5, 6, and 7 and pick some things from there.
Credit for devotional questions goes to my mom.:)
And now for the tasty treats to accompany your devotional: Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins!
I am not sure where my family learned this recipe. I do not take credit for it. It is more of a combination of ingredients than a recipe; you’ll see. If you have never heard about this pumpkin concoction, you must give it a try! Surprisingly, you barely taste the pumpkin in this recipe. Rather, you taste a spongy, sweet, chocolatey muffin that is naturally orange for autumn, slightly healthy than your typical cupcake, and extrememly easy to make!
Here it is:
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins
- 1 can of 100% pureed pumpkin
- 1 box of yellow cake mix
- chocolate chips, as many as you like (the more the better!)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Mix up the can of pumpkin and the cake mix in a mixing bowl.
Dump in some chocolate chips and fold.
Sppon batter into greased muffin tin. Makes 12 muffins.
Bake for 10 minutes to start and keep baking for incrimates of 3-5 minutes. Their cook time will depend on the cake mix you use and where you live. Their edges will be lightly browned when they are done, and a toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin will come out clean.
Enjoy this autumn with a muffin and devotional! Thanks for reading!
“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.”
