Many people say that Christianity is a religion, but I contend that Christianity is much more than a religion. A religion a particular set of beliefs a person has and the actions they take based off of them, in other words, a sub set of a person’s life. Christianity, on the other hand, infiltrates a person’s life, affecting every thought, opinion, and action. That’s because Chrisitianity is a relationship, a deep, personal, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. After all, Jesus said, “Abide in me and I in you” (John 15:4-5). He said if you want to follow Him, His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30), meaning there is nothing you have to do, as so many religions require of you, you just have to follow Him- do things His way!
This blog post is titled “Autumn Thoughts.” I named it that because as the autumn season comes and summer ends, it reminds me of how fast seasons come and go, yet Jesus is with me through it all. That’s why I bring this up about a relationship. As I grow in closer relationship with Jesus, I realize more and more how that is the only thing that really matters and how sweet is the comfort of knowing not just who Jesus is, but KNOWING Him. I am still sinful and prone to wander, as the song says, but I know His faithfulness, His goodness, His justice, His mercy, His love. Seasons in life can be crazy. The changing fall leaves and the chill ruffling the warm air against my skin reminds me of this. I know not what I would do if God were not shepherding me with His rod and staff through my life. I hold tight to His promise that He is with me wherever I go. (I wrote a poem about it. You should check it out!)
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” ~Joshua 1:9 ESV
I want to encourage you today, that if you do not believe , Jesus, the only Way, Truth, and Life, go get a Bible and start getting to know Him. Don’t wait to put your trust in Him as Lord and Savior!
If you already are walking with Jesus, lean into Him ever closer whichever season of life you are in, and hold tight to that promise that He is always with you no matter what you are going through. His peace, His comfort, His joy, His provision, is greater than anything this world has to offer!
