If you are moving away or simply packing up some old china, you always want to maximize your packing materials as much as possible while assuring your delicate pieces won’t get destroyed. Numerous and varied, there are a million ways to safely pack those breakable objects. The important question is: How can you most efficiently use the amount of packing supplies you have per fragile items? Here’s how! All you need is one sheet of packing paper for every three salad plates with this fantastic technique I have figured. Try it out by following the video tutorial or easy-to-understand, written instructions below!
Efficiently Packing Salad Plates– Instructions:
- Lay one salad plate in the center of a sheet of packing paper about three inches from the top edge.
- Fold the top edge of the sheet of packing paper over the salad plate, so it covers less than half of the plate’s surface.
- Now, fold the right side of packing paper over the salad plate. It should cover the majority of the plate’s surface.
- Fold the left side of the sheet of packing paper over top of the right side of packing paper, similarly to wrapping a present.
- Stack a second salad plate on top of the first one with the folds you just made in between the two.
- Fold over the bottom part of packing paper so it covers the second plate.
- Open the slot in the bottom part of packing paper you just folded over the second plate. The slot will have been created by the folds you made in steps 3 and 4. To easily open the slot, you may want to hold the edge of the bottom layer of the slot where the edges of the right and left side of packing paper meet.
- Slip a third plate into the slot. Essentially, you will have a stack of three salad plates with an arrangement of folds in the packing paper between each plate. Secure the package by folding over the edge of packing paper. Store the package of salad plates in your desired location. (I recommend putting a square of bubble wrap in between each package of salad plates just for precaution. :))
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
