Overrated

Living! How great it feels to be alive. I really can’t tell you exactly how great, mostly because I’ve never been dead before. Have you ever imagined living eternally in heaven? It seems like a very obvious imagination for a Christian, but to be honest, I haven’t intently imagined or thought about it. I’ve had questions about what it will be like, but I’ve never thoroughly imagined it. Now that I think about it, it seems hard to imagine. It will be perfect living. Since I am not perfect, and I’m simply a treacherous, wicked sinner, I can’t imagine heaven perfectly because I’ve never seen perfection.

I think the world has made up this idea of being perfect when we are not perfect. Just now, I was going to make sugar cookies. I made the dough a little while ago because it had to sit in the refrigerator. We pulled the dough out of the refrigerator and realized that it was super crumbly. Guess what!?! I only put 1 cup of butter into the batter instead of two. We had to throw the dough away and plan to start again.

I also think that we have another idea related to being perfect…Expectations. Expectations aren’t bad, but we don’t want them to be an idol. They become an idol when we have unhealthy expectations, such as being perfect. Maybe, you’re feeling like you can’t cry or have any emotions. You always have to keep a happy face and make everyone happy. I’ll tell you straight off that it isn’t possible. Only God can fulfill everyone’s needs completely.

Sometimes, we feel like we’ll be judged if we don’t meet these unhealthy expectations. Perhaps, you got a “C” on your science test, or you’re not meeting expectations in school, and you feel like you’re just not enough. There are lots of unhealthy expectations in the world. Whether it’s standing up for justice, or whatnot, God sees you. You are so precious in His sight, and He loves you. Perfection is overrated. Only God is perfect, and we can count on Him never to change! Put your unhealthy expectations on the altar, and let God take control. You don’t have to be perfect, because God loves you, since love covers over a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8!)

1 Peter 4:8

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
