The Living Redeemer

“Well I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
All of creation testify
This life within me cries..” (My Redeemer Lives, Nicole Mullen)

Nearing the lazy mid-afternoon, the Holy Spirit began whispering this sweet, sweet melody in my listening ear. Finally, He tenderly placed the triumphant words onto my singing lips, “My Redeemer lives!” It was on my heart to share the Lord’s voice which stirred within me unto you. He reminded me that though His victorious death on the cross was the ultimate sacrifice that rendered my salvation, He is not finished working. No, instead He is a living Redeemer. Over and over, He heals hurting people, mends those with open wounds, and blesses His children. Never does He cease His enduring love and mercy for anyone, including you.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” ~ Psalm 147:3

Jesus Cleanses Our Sin:

All people suffer terrible events. We sin. Other people sin. Sin. It messes up everything, and it distorts the best of God’s beautiful creation, including us and our lives. Jesus lovingly saved us and continually cleanses us so that we may share a relationship with Him.

“But if we live in the light in the same way that God is in the light, we have a relationship with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from every sin.”~1 John 1:7

Participating in God’s Plan:

While darkness blankets the world, we sleep. Bright and awaking, the sun rises in the sky, and our behavior changes dramatically. We conscientiously breath, daydream, and move, instead of mindlessly resting.  Just like the sun’s brilliant rays affect our brain, sending signals telling our body to wake up, the Light of the World affects our hearts, telling us to participate in God’s plan for our lives.

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’.”~John 14:6

God already knows us, but by believing and devoting ourselves to Him, we come to know who He is. We see His loving character evolving in us as the fruit of our acceptance of the Lord. We start feeling conviction and the need for repentance. We begin realizing His blessings overflow on our lives according to His richly gifted grace. We start searching for ways to get more of this Jesus person, ways to connect with other believers, and ways to point to Him throughout our daily lives. We also begin understanding our identity in the Lord God. After coming to know Jesus, a purpose glows in every area that Jesus wants us to tackle.

Alive and Working:

Since He is a Living Redeemer, He is constantly revealing to us the  marvelous acts that He’s doing. Oftentimes, He wishes to do His work through us. What is work? At my home school co-op, work is defined as a force driven across a distance. God is not a silly physics thing, but He still gave us these resources concerning science to help us understand bits of how He works.

To describe the action God takes, we could say that He is the force. He is constantly moving over the entire universe. How does He perform this work? Performing effective, useful work requires energy. Tricky, but fascinating, energy cannot disappear and it cannot be invented. Instead, it travels through places and objects. When God desires for us to be apart of the work He is doing, His energy is transferring through His followers, strengthening and allowing them to fulfill the work that the Father wills. Many occasions, we will make mistakes and disobey God, but He can redeem us, because, indeed, He is a Living Redeemer! He can still work through us to fulfill His plan since He has perfected us in Christ!

“You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.”~Exodus 15:13
