Turn to Your God

Imagine you’re standing in the in the middle of caotic football feild.  It’s only flag football, but your feet are scrambling across the dry grass, trying to catch the ball as it soars through the air.

Your heart is pounding and sweat is dripping constantly from your face, wet like water, but sticky as honey.  The ball spirals smoothly through the air, flying fast for you hands.  You reach up, up, up. “Smack!”  The football lands in your hands, but suddenly…  Your poor flag is brutaly yanked by the defender.

You may have no idea what I’m saying if you’re not famililar with “football talk.”  Although, if you can even slightly grasp the concept I’m trying explain, you may realize how dissapointing it would be to heroically catch the football, being filled with hope of scoring some points for your team by making a touchdown and instantly lose all hope when your flag gets pulled.

It would be devasting!  Yet, no matter how sad the defeat may be, that’s what happens in flag football.  You can’t avoid having your flag pulled completly. It’s apart of the game and it’s going to happen.

Life is a lot like a game of flag football.  Sometimes, bad things happen that make us doubt Jesus and lose hope.  Still, we can’t stop bad things from happening, just like you can’t stop someone from pulling your flag.  Luckily, Jesus can encourage and help you through those hard times as a team helps each other, but His help is ever so much better.

The Bible says in Psalm 18:2, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my Savior, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the strength of my salvation, my stronghold.”  Take a elegant note card and write this verse in your best handwriting on it.  Stick the note card with some painter’s tape on your bathroom mirrior.  Next time you are have struggles or hurt, remember this verse and turn to the Lord!

Lets pray!

Dear Lord, thank you for coming and rescueing us from the hands of evil.  You are our Savior and our God.  Lord, bad things happen to me sometimes, and I don’t like it. Please, help me to turn to you in those times of difficulty and hurt.  I love you, Jesus!  It’s in your name we pray.  Amen.
